What is mobile first index?

The date is clear: since late March 2021, Google has focused on the Mobile First Index. This topic has been discussed for several months, perhaps years, and now we can finally talk about a search engine that prioritizes websites starting from the version designed for devices like smartphones and tablets.

The Mobile First Index reflects the growing importance of mobile devices in people’s daily habits: fixed devices are being abandoned in favor of those that allow users to move freely and access information anywhere in the world.

With Mobile First Index, Google indexes websites using only the information from the mobile version. The desktop version is considered only if the mobile version is unavailable—a solution that, as you can imagine, can be disadvantageous for several reasons.

First, because most traffic today, especially in certain sectors, is predominantly mobile. Second, because Google has long penalized sites that are not optimized for smartphones.
